Romans Devotional- Day 39

1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

1. What incredible truth does Paul declare about people who are in Christ Jesus? (V1)
2. Which law has set believers free from the law of sin and death? (V2)
3. What could the law of Moses not do for people? (V3)
4. Why could it not set people free? (V3)
5. How did God provide a solution to our sin problem? (V3)
6. What was the result of Jesus Christ coming to earth as a human and dying for our sin? (V4)
7. Are those who walk according to the “flesh” believers or unbelievers? (Vv4, 8)
8. Since Christ fulfilled the law on our behalf by what means do Christians now walk? (V4)

  1. Your translation omits an important qualifier in verse 1: “who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” That same phrase is repeated again in verse 4, which your translation does include. The fact that it is repeated twice is significant. “Them which are in Christ Jesus” are conspicuous in that they “walk not after the flesh” as the rest of the “unsaved” world. Paul later drives the point home again in Chapter 12:1-2. If someone truly is “in Christ Jesus,” his “fruit” must bear that out.
